The International Down and Feather Bureau (IDFB) is the global trade association of the down and feather industry. IDFB ‘s total membership is currently comprised of more than 650 members from 32 countries and regions.
IDFB is the leading resource for information about and promotion of down and feather material. IDFB conducts the research and creates the testing protocols and standards to help this industry maintain a high level of product integrity throughout the world.
A recent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) commissioned by the International Down and Feather Bureau proved the sustainability of down. The LCA tested the impact of down versus polyester in five environmental areas: human health, ecosystems, resources, cumulative energy demand and climate change. It was found that down has between 85% – 97% lower impacts than polyester in all the impact categories analyzed and has 18 times less of an impact on climate change than polyester fill.
